JC pulls up anchor at WUSA
The first female news anchor in the Washington area is leaving her signature newscast. JC Hayward, a 34-year veteran of WUSA/Ch. 9, anchored her last 5 p.m. newscast on Friday. She is adding the title vice president for media outreach and will continue as noon anchor and feature reporter of "JC & Friends." "I will be going to churches and schools and communities and non-profit organizations," said Hayward, describing her new post as an extension of her regular community appearances. She said an anchor assuming a vice president position is unique. As Ch. 9's ratings eroded over the past decade, the 5 p.m. news has suffered greatly, falling as low as fifth place in its time period. Tracey Neale and Derek McGinty will take over. "If they receive half of the love and half of the support and half of the kind words [that I have] then they too will be truly blessed," Hayward told viewers.
